Value Delivered
John provides the engineering expertise and innovative thinking that enables the company to design and deliver consistently reliable, high-performance heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), electrical and other client solutions. To achieve this, he oversees a staff of systems specialists who design, engineer, install, test and balance client systems. In addition, he and his team perform lifecycle costing and other calculations that enable clients to evaluate their system replacement, capacity expansion and other options, while effectively balancing operating costs and capital expenditures. He also helps clients renovate their air handling systems to reduce energy costs. And he reviews and approves the adjust-and-balance reports submitted by his team of nine balancers. Always, his goal is to deliver systems that provide optimum facilities operation, maximum comfort and productivity, and long-term value.
Expertise
John developed his industry expertise from the ground up. At the age of 14, he began working in the company’s tool room, later moving to the sheet metal shop. After a stint as an estimator, he held project, test/adjust/balance and construction manager positions. Before assuming his current post, he was vice president of the special projects division, vice president of business development and vice president of construction.
John has extensive design standards and criteria expertise, knowledge that enables him to advise clients about not only what the codes and standards are now, but also what they may be in the future. Since 1991, he has been an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), where he serves on the organization’s technical committee that establishes general design standards for the HVAC systems used in large buildings. He also serves on the subcommittee that oversees standards for central chilled water plants, and is a member of the general project committees that evaluate instrumentation for monitoring central chilled water plant efficiency and assess procedures for specifying outdoor, return and relief dampers for variable air volume systems.
John has a bachelor’s in mechanical engineering from Cornell University and is a licensed professional engineer in Ohio and Kentucky. He has completed additional training through ASHRAE, Carrier, Trane, Honeywell, the National Environmental Balancing Board (NEBB), Cincinnati Technical College and the State of Ohio’s Fire Protection Training Certification Program. President of NEBB, he is a NEBB-certified air and hydraulic balancing supervisor. He is also a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA), the Mechanical Contractors Association (MCA), the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors Association (PHCC) and the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE).
The Personal Side
John and his wife enjoy traveling and visiting their two sons, who are in college. John is also an avid skier and racquetball player.
